 How We Got Started

It was in 1978 that the beginnings of a local fly-fishing club began to take shape in Ridgecrest. After several more months of advertising, planning and meetings, things really started to take shape.

Finally, in January of 1979, with club by-laws in place, and forty-one fly-fishing enthusiast signed on as Charter members, the first club officers and board members were elected. After months of hard work, these veteran and novice anglers alike, became known as the Aguabonita Flyfishers Club.

Today as well as in the past, club members continue to live out the ideals and goals that were established over 34 years ago. They continue to partner with many local, state, and federal government agencies, several California school districts, and many non-profit organizations both nationally and internationally, to share not only our passion for fly-fishing but also to work harder for the protection and enhancement of fisheries and wild places in California and beyond.
